Pradosh Vrat is the auspicious bimonthly fast observed on Trayodashi Tithi (the 13th lunar day) of both waxing and waning fortnights. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, worshipping Mahadev during the sacred twilight window (Pradosh Kaal) burns stubborn karma, dissolves financial debts, and restores emotional vitality.
प्रदोष व्रत का पावन अर्थ एवं आध्यात्मिक रहस्य
The word “Pradosha” in Sanskrit refers to the twilight period just after sunset, specifically the window spanning 45 minutes before sunset until 45 minutes after sunset (approximately a 1.5-hour duration). According to the Skanda Purana and Shiva Purana, during this magical twilight hour on Trayodashi Tithi, all thirty-three crore deities, celestial beings, and sages assemble on Mount Kailash to witness Lord Shiva perform the cosmic dance of bliss (Sandhya Tandava) while Mata Parvati presides over the gathering.
At this moment, Lord Shiva is in his most generous, compassionate, and benevolent mood (Ashutosh, one who is easily pleased). Worshipping Lord Shiva during the Pradosh Kaal is considered equal in spiritual merit to visiting all twelve Jyotirlingas.
